How much does it cost to study English in the USA in 2027? Real prices in Los Angeles, Miami, San Diego and Florida

Updated 18 October 2026 · Prices from each school's official 2027 price list

In 2027, four weeks of General English in the USA cost between US$1,120 and US$1,500 (about €1,000–€1,330) at the 5 schools that have already sent us their price lists, in Los Angeles, Miami, San Diego and Fort Lauderdale. American schools charge higher one-off fees than European ones: a registration fee of US$150–US$200, and up to US$350 to place you with a host family. Here are their real 2027 prices, with what you pay on LanguageBookings.

Intensive courses

Visa: why the number of hours matters

Under US rules, a language course of 18 or more hours a week is full-time study and needs an F-1 student visa: the school issues the I-20 form you take to your visa interview. Shorter courses taken for leisure can usually be done with a visitor visa or ESTA. Schools count class hours in their own way (a 50-minute lesson often counts as one hour), so ask the school whether your course gives you an I-20. Mentor also sells a 16-lesson Vacation ESL Program (US$1,272 for 4 weeks). Check travel.state.gov before booking.

How to pay less

• Count the one-off fees: registration (US$150–US$200) and the homestay placement fee (US$150–US$350) add up to several hundred dollars.
• Share a room: a bed in a 4-person dormitory with Mentor costs US$326 a week, against US$451 for a homestay.
• Stay longer: at Mentor the weekly price falls from US$318 (4 weeks) to US$236 (24 weeks).
• Book through LanguageBookings: you get our discount on the course, you pay nothing upfront (your card is only authorised for the deposit, which is charged when the school confirms; the rest you pay to the school), and if you find the same course cheaper under the same conditions, we match the price.
